OYO Revises Check-In Policy: Unmarried Couples Barred at Partner Hotels in Meerut

Mumbai: OYO has revised its check-in policies for partner hotels, starting in Meerut, where unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check in.
Under the new guidelines, effective immediately, couples will need to present valid proof of their relationship at check-in.
This policy will also apply to online bookings, according to a PTI report.The company stated, “OYO has empowered its partner hotels to decline couple bookings at their discretion, aligning with local social sensibilities.”
The directive has been implemented in Meerut and may expand to other cities based on feedback.OYO has reportedly received significant input from civil society groups, particularly in Meerut, urging the company to address the issue of unmarried couples using its hotels. Similar feedback has been received from residents in other cities, prompting calls for broader implementation of the policy.
Pawas Sharma, Region Head, OYO North India, said, “OYO is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also recognise our responsibility to listen to and collaborate with law enforcement and civil society groups in the markets we serve. We will continue to review this policy and its impact periodically. This initiative is part of OYO’s efforts to transform outdated perceptions and establish itself as a brand providing safe experiences for families, students, business, religious, and solo travellers.”
The company has also launched pan-India initiatives, such as blacklisting hotels that promote unethical practices, organising joint seminars on safe hospitality with police and hotel partners, and taking action against unauthorised hotels misusing its branding.
