Pak Army Chief Gen Bajwa’s Term Extended For 3 More Years

Mumbai: Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s term has been extended for a period of three years.

“General Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed Chief of Army Staff for another term of three years from the date of completion of current tenure,” read a brief statement from Imran Khan’s office.

The declaration states that this step has been taken keeping in view the security environment in the subcontinent.

Qamar Bajwa’s tenure extended amid tensions between India and Pakistan over the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Qamar Bajwa was appointed the head of the Pakistan Army in November 2016 by the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The 58-year-old general was expected to retire this year.

He belongs to the 62nd Long Course of Pakistan Military Academy. He was the Commander of the first Rawalpindi Corps and became Inspector General of Training and Evaluation at the Pakistan Army Headquarters.
