Pakistan Deep State Happy With What’s Going on In Border State: Manish Tewari On Punjab Crisis

Tewari said that Punjab is also going through intense social upheaval primarily because of angst in people against farm laws

Mumbai: Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed concern about the Punjab crisis and said that the only people who are very happy with what is going on in the border state is the Pakistani deep state.

“As a Punjab MP, I am extremely distressed about happenings in the state. Peace in Punjab was extremely hard-won. 25,000 people, bulk of the Congressmen, sacrificed themselves to bring peace back to Punjab after fighting extremism and terrorism from 1980 to 1995,” he said. Also Read: Congress High Command Adopts Wait & Watch Policy; Sidhu breaks Silence ‘will sacrifice everything’

“They feel that they will get an opportunity to fish in troubled waters,” he added.

Reacting to Sidhu’s resignation as Punjab Congress chief, Tewari said that there’s a higher ideal than power than ministers holding positions. He further added that under these circumstances, if such shenanigans played themselves out in public space, it has serious implications on the stability of a border state.

“That higher ideal is ensuring peace, tranquillity and stability of a border state like Punjab. Under those circumstances, what has been playing itself out is extremely unfortunate,” Tewari said.

When asked about Captain Amarinder Singh, Tewari called him an extremely tall leader who was also a close friend of his late father.

“Whatever Captain had predicted is coming true. The concern of a large number of us who see things beyond the cut and thrust of partisan politics is implications that this will have on larger stability of Punjab, given the social turmoil because of farmers’ agitation,” he remarked.

He further showed deep concerns on the border safety of the state and said that at this point in time, the border state requires a safe pair of hands that could keep the ship on an even keel.

“Unfortunately, people who were charged with the remit of looking at the state did not have a clue about the big picture,” he added.

Sidhu tendered his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at around 3 pm on Tuesday.

However, the resignation has not been accepted yet with the high command asking the state leadership to resolve the matter at their own level first.
