Pakistan Will Be Under Pressure To Act After FATF Gives February 2020 Deadline To Control Terror Funding: Bipin Rawat

Mumbai: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said on Saturday that Pakistan was under pressure to act against terrorists, a day after the Global Financial Surveillance Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gave Islamabad to take action on a 27-point action plan by February 2020.

Speaking to news agency ANI before flagging off ‘The Ultimate Run’, an event organized by the Army for the next honour of families and disabled soldiers, the Army Chief said, “There is pressure on them (Pakistan).” They have to take action. We would like them to work towards restoring peace. Being on such a ‘grey list’ is a shock to any nation.”

Pakistan is currently in the FATF’s ‘Gray List’, one of three categories, the other two beings ‘White’ and ‘Black’. It was added to the grey list in June.

On Friday, the Paris-headquartered FATF, which had given Pakistan until October to implement the 27-point action plan in June, found it a failure on 22 points and by February next year to implement the plan and curb terror. Financing at risk of being blacklisted by watchdogs.

Blacklisting for a country by the FATF means inviting immediate economic sanctions, facing difficulty borrowing, financial scrutiny and non-financial banking institutions under bailout and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) It is getting harder to use by.
