PDP Claims Mehbooba Mufti Placed Under House Arrest

Mumbai: A party leader claimed that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was put under house arrest on Monday so that she could not visit Anantnag to meet the family of a youth killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists last week.

The Peoples Democratic Party leader claimed that the police had locked the main gate of Mehbooba’s house.

A police official said the PDP chief was not allowed to visit Anantnag due to security reasons.

According to the police, Shahid Ahmed was killed in an encounter between Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and terrorists in Shopian district on October 24.

The PDP leader claimed that Mehbooba was put under house arrest at her Fairview residence in the Gupkar area of ​​the city here and was not allowed to go out.

She was to visit the family of the slain youth Shahid Ahmed in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The party leader said that she wanted to express her condolences to the bereaved family, but they were not allowed to step out of their residence.

According to the PDP leader, the police have locked the main gate of Mehbooba’s house. A police vehicle has been deployed outside the gate to keep a watch on any movement.

Mainstream political parties in the Valley had reacted strongly to Ahmed’s death and demanded an inquiry.

Mehbooba said it was sad that the armed forces in Kashmir operate “with so much impunity”.
