Pic Shows Over 400 Hindus Taking Shelter At School After Fleeing Bengal’s Murshidabad

Mumbai: Violent protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district have triggered communal unrest, forcing over 400 Hindus to flee from Dhulian village. The situation has escalated to such an extent that a special division bench of the Calcutta High Court has ordered the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the region, citing inadequate measures by the state government to control the volatile scenario.
“Religious Persecution is Real,” Claims Suvendu Adhikari
Leader of the Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the seriousness of the situation. He shared pictures and videos of displaced families and said, “More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad driven by fear of religiously driven bigots were forced to flee across the river and take shelter at Par Lalpur High School in Malda.”

Religious persecution in Bengal is real.

Calling the situation “religious persecution”, Adhikari accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of indulging in appeasement politics and failing to maintain law and order.
“Hindus are being hunted, our people are running for their lives in their own land! Shame on the State Govt for allowing this breakdown,” he wrote.
He further urged state police, central paramilitary forces, and the district administration to ensure the safe return of displaced families and safeguard them from what he described as “jihadist terror”.
High Court Slams State Government, Orders Immediate Action
In response to a petition filed by Adhikari, the Calcutta High Court issued a stern directive ordering CAPF deployment in Murshidabad, emphasizing the “grave” and “volatile” nature of the situation.
“The deployment of Central Armed Forces earlier could have de-escalated the situation, as it appears that adequate measures have not been taken in time,” read the order.
The court further noted that constitutional bodies cannot remain passive when citizens’ safety is at risk and stressed the need for urgent action against the perpetrators of the violence.
BJP’s Amit Malviya Slams State Police and Mamata Banerjee
Adding to the criticism, Amit Malviya, BJP’s in-charge of the party’s National Information and Technology Department, accused the West Bengal Police of demoralization, claiming that officers were unwilling to act until the BSF (Border Security Force) intervened.
“The DGP had to be physically present to coax his own force into action,” Malviya posted on X.
He further criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she routinely uses the state police as a political shield, while TMC leaders remain silent, calling it a “pathetic state of affairs.”
No Official Response from TMC Yet
As of now, the state government and the TMC leadership have not issued any official statement in response to the allegations or the court’s directives. The unfolding situation continues to attract national attention, with both communal harmony and governance under intense scrutiny.
