PM Congratulates People Of J&K As Srinagar Joins UNESCO Creative Cities Network

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi congratulated the people of Jammu and Kashmir as Srinagar made it to the prestigious list of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) for 2021, for craft and folk art.

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister said it’s fitting recognition for the vibrant cultural ethos of Srinagar.

“Delighted that beautiful Srinagar joins the @UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) with a special mention for its craft and folk art. It is fitting recognition for the vibrant cultural ethos of Srinagar. Congratulations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir (sic),” PM Modi tweeted.

In recognition of her commitment to “put culture and creativity at the centre of their development and the sharing of knowledge and good practices”, by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, a total of 49 cities were added to a network of 246 cities.

The network is now reaching 295 cities, 90 countries that invest in culture and creativity, crafts and folk arts, design, film, gastronomy, literature, media arts and music. To advance sustainable urban development, according to a release posted on the UNESCO site.

According to PTI, Mumbai and Hyderabad are already in the network, having made it to the list in October 2019.
