PM Modi Announces Rs 1,000 Cr For Gujarat; Rs 2 Lakh To Kin Of Deceased In Cyclone Tauktae

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for immediate relief activities in the devastated state of Gujarat in the cyclone Tauktae.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured in the cyclone in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Union Territories. And Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Prime Minister Modi said that in view of the situation after the cyclone, the Center is working closely with the affected state governments. Immediate financial assistance will also be provided to these states after the respective state governments share their assessment with the centre.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of cyclone-affected areas of Gujarat and Diu.

“Undertook an aerial survey over parts of Gujarat and Diu to assess the situation in the wake of Cyclone Tauktae. The Central Government is working closely with all the states affected by the cyclone,” tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the central government will deploy an inter-ministerial team to visit Gujarat to assess the damage done in the state, on the basis of which further assistance will be given.

The Prime Minister said that the Central Government will work closely with the State Government in this difficult time to provide all possible assistance for the restoration and reconstruction of the infrastructure in the affected areas.

The Prime Minister expressed his solidarity with all the people affected by the cyclone in different parts of India and expressed deep sorrow for the families who lost their families during the disaster.

“We should continue to focus on more scientific studies related to disaster management,” he said.

Officials said on Tuesday that Tauktae is the strongest storm in Gujarat since 1998, as it has affected parts of the state and has left marks of destruction along the coast, uprooted electric poles and trees, and Many homes and roads have been damaged, said on Tuesday.

Cyclone Tauktae has impacted the weather conditions in several parts of Northern India including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi where rainfall was witnessed today.
