PM Modi Gets Clean Chit In Post-Godhra Riots

Mumbai: In another development here, Nanavati-Mehta Commission Report on post-Godhra riots, which was tabled in Gujarat assembly on Wednesday, has given clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to media persons, Gujarat Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja said: “Narendra Modi was accused of having visited Godhra without telling anyone. This charge is wrong in the report of the Commission. It is not a secret visit. Was nor was the journey to destroy it. Proof. ”

The minister said that Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time, did not need to inform all the high officials of the state about his visit to Godhra.

“The concerned authorities were informed of their visit and they had made necessary arrangements for that visit. It was not a secret meeting,” he said.

Meanwhile, on allegations of corroboration of evidence in the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express, the report said: “There is no material to show that the chief minister, by entering the burnt coach S6, disturbed any evidence and that was some ulterior motive. ”

“The concerned authorities were informed of their visit and they had made necessary arrangements for that visit. It was not a secret meeting,” he said.

An allegation was made by former IPS Sreekumar in which he claimed that a meeting was held at Modi’s residence on the night of 27 February 2002. At the meeting, the then chief minister directed the police and state administration to refrain from resorting to any strict action and allow the majority community to express their anger and anguish against the minority community.

The report quoted PM Modi as saying: “I was constantly reviewing the situation by holding review meetings of senior government and police officers responsible for maintaining law and order to restore normalcy.”

The first part of the report was submitted by the Nanavati-Mehta Commission in 2008. It covered the Godhra train burning incident, concluding that burning the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra railway station was a “well-planned conspiracy”.
