PM Modi Is ‘Top Leader’ Of The Country’, Says Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the top leader of the country and the BJP credits its success to the Prime Minister.

The unexpected words of praise from the former BJP ally came just days after Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s one-on-one meeting with the PM. Thackeray’s meeting with the PM sparked speculation in the political circles of Maharashtra.

“I don’t want to comment on it… I don’t go on media reports. There has been no official statement about it. The BJP owes its success to Narendra Modi in the last seven years and currently, he is the top leader of the country and his party,” Raut said, news agency PTI quoted.

Raut further said that the Prime Minister of the country belongs to the whole country and not to any particular party. Raut further said, “Hence the PM should not indulge in the election campaign as it puts pressure on the official machinery.”

Asked if the BJP and Shiv Sena can come together with their former ally BJP, Raut said, “No one can make friendship with a tiger (Shiv Sena’s election symbol). It is the tiger that decides whom he wants to be friends with.”
