PM Modi Welcomes US Vice President JD Vance and Family in New Delhi, Set to Hold Bilateral Talks

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed United States Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Vance and their three children, at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The warm reception marks the beginning of Vice President Vance’s four-day visit to India, which aims to further bolster the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Earlier in the day, the Vance family paid a visit to the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in New Delhi. Embracing Indian culture, their children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—were seen in traditional attire. The boys wore kurta-pyjamas, while Mirabel wore an Anarkali-style outfit with an embroidered jacket.
Vice President Vance shared his appreciation for the hospitality and the temple experience in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Thank you all so much for your hospitality and kindness in welcoming me and my family to this beautiful place. It is a great credit to India that you built a beautiful temple with precision and care. Our kids, in particular, loved it. God bless.”
In addition to the temple visit, the Vance family also stopped by the Central Cottage Industries Emporium at Janpath, exploring traditional Indian crafts.
Upon his arrival at Palam Air Force Station in the capital earlier in the day, Vance was welcomed with a ceremonial reception by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
During his India tour, Vice President Vance is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi before proceeding to Jaipur on Tuesday and Agra on Wednesday. His visit is seen as a key moment in reaffirming the growing India-US partnership across strategic, trade, and cultural fronts.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the importance of the visit, noting that it will address all significant areas of collaboration. “We have a comprehensive strategic global partnership. When you have that level of engagement, you naturally discuss all relevant issues,” Jaiswal said during a recent media briefing.
He also hinted at ongoing talks toward a bilateral trade agreement between the two nations. “We are in discussions with the US side so that a bilateral trade agreement can be finalized,” he added.
A Multi-Nation Tour
Vice President Vance and his family arrived in India after completing a three-day visit to Italy, where he held bilateral meetings and took part in Easter services.
As the US and India continue to deepen their partnership, Vance’s visit underscores the shared commitment to cooperation on a wide array of issues—from global security to economic ties and cultural exchange.
