PM Narendra Modi To Meet Japanese Counterpart, Shinzo Abe

Mumbai: In the sidelines of G-20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been scheduled to meet his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Osaka, Japan on Thursday.

Modi reached Osaka to attend G-20 Summit early this morning.

Upon his arrival, Indian diaspora welcomed Modi at Swissotel Nankai hotel in Osaka.

Apart from Abe, Modi is expected to attend several multilateral and bilateral meetings including meeting with US President Donald Trump.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister said that the Summit will provide an important opportunity to strengthen India’s strong support for “improved multilateralism”, which is important for the conservation of rule-based international order in the rapidly changing world.

At the summit, he said that the progress achieved in combating global challenges like terrorism and climate change will be discussed and it will be a platform for sharing the experience of development of India for the last five years.

Modi will hold 10 bilateral meetings with France, Japan, Indonesia, USA, and Turkey on the occasion of the G20 Summit in Japan.

India, Russia, and China are expected to hold a trilateral meeting (RIC). The Prime Minister will also meet the leaders of BRICS countries.

Meantime, India will be hosting a summit in 2022 for the first time as India has participated in all G20 Summit.

Apart from India and the host Japan, other participants are the US, UK, European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Russia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Korea, South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
