PM Narendra Modi To Visit Narmada Dam On His B’day

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the site of Gujarat’s Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, whose water level has risen to the highest level for the first time to perform feats and kick off the “Namami Narmada” festival.

For the first time since the height of the dam rose in 2017, the water level reached its highest peak at 138.68 meters on Sunday evening.

The Prime Minister will land at Ahmedabad Airport on Monday night. He will visit the dam site in Kevadia in Narmada district on Tuesday morning on his 69th birthday to attend the “Namami Narmada Mahotsav”, according to a state government release issued on Monday.

An official said that before leaving for Kevade from Gandhinagar on Tuesday morning, the PM would go to Raison village in his capital to seek blessings from his non-mother mother Hiraba.

“After visiting the dam site in Kevadia, the Prime Minister will address a gathering. We are building a huge dome to accommodate around 10,000 people who have come from the Narmada, Bharuch and Chotaudepur districts.

“After his address, the PM would inspect some ongoing developmental projects near the dam and the Statue of Unity,” said Narmada district collector, IK Patel.

The Statue of Unity is the world’s tallest such structure in the name of the country’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Before leaving the site at around 12 noon, the prime minister is expected to visit the temple of Lord Dattatreya at Garudeshwar village near Kevadiya.

Temple officials have confirmed that they have been informed by the authorities that PM will visit the temple before 12 noon.

The government had said that the “Namami Devi Narmada Mahotsav” program would be held across the state, while the main event is scheduled in Kevadia.

To mark the occasion, renowned folk artists and singers from Gujarat’s film industry will participate in public celebrations in various cities on Tuesday.

Senior BJP MLAs will lead the function at the district level.
