PM Travels In Seaplanes & India’s Tax Structure Loots Poor: Rahl Gandhi
Mumbai: During a rally in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of structuring taxes to exploit the poor while favouring the wealthy. Gandhi claimed that India’s tax framework is intended to “loot the poor,” adding that prominent businessman Gautam Adani pays a similar tax amount to ordinary citizens despite his vast wealth.
Highlighting concerns over land allocation, Gandhi alleged that land in Mumbai’s Dharavi, valued at ₹1 lakh crore, is being handed over to Adani. He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lifestyle choices, including travel by seaplane, implying that the government is disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens, particularly women, who face the burden of rising prices.
Gandhi further raised concerns about representation, stating that marginalized communities, including Scheduled Tribes (STs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who constitute around 90% of India’s population, are underrepresented in government institutions. He promised that a Congress-led government would prioritize the needs of the poor, allocating funds comparable to the debts of capitalists that he alleges have been waived by the Modi administration.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid rising political tensions as Congress seeks to highlight issues of economic inequality, price inflation, and underrepresentation ahead of key state elections.
