Police Beat Me Up, Urinated In Mouth: Journalist Covering Train Accident In UP

Mumbai: In Shamli, western Uttar Pradesh, a journalist was beaten by a group of GRP personnel under the leadership of SHO Rakesh Kumar on camera. The group was seen slapping repeatedly and beaten the journalist while trying to argue with them.

The journalist was allegedly thrashed when he was covering a train derailment in Dhimanpura on Tuesday night.

Later, the journalist alleged that he was tortured. According to the ANI, a journalist associated with a news channel said, “They were in plain clothes. One killed my camera and it fell. When I picked it up, they abused me. I was stopped, was snatched And he urged me.”

In Shamli the journalist was allegedly dragged into the Government Railway Police (GRP) police station and put behind the bars. He was kept in custody for the night, while the order to release him on Wednesday morning was issued.

SHO Rakesh Kumar and constable Sunil Kumar have been suspended and police lines have been sent for their work.

Meanwhile, UP DGP, OP Singh has ordered the SHO GRP Shamli Rakesh Kumar and constable Sanjay Pawar to suspend immediately. The police said that the policemen who abused the citizens will be given severe punishment.
