Pondy Reports 31 New COVID-19 Cases, Tally Mounts To 38,737

Mumbai: Puducherry added 31 new cases to its coronavirus tally on Wednesday, bringing the total infection count to 38,737.

None of the four died in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The virus toll was 643.

New cases were identified at the end of the investigation of 3,679 samples.

Director S Mohan Kumar said that 32 patients were discharged after recovery from hospitals during the last 24 hours.

The mortality and recovery rates were 1.66 per cent and 97.58 per cent respectively.

The director said that so far 5.42 lakh samples were tested and out of the 4.99 lakh samples turned out to be negative.

The Puducherry region of the union territory accounted for 24 out of 31 new cases while Karaikal reported two and Mahe five cases.

The director said that there were no recent cases in the Yanam area. COVID-19 in the union territory totalled 38,737.

While there were 296 active cases, out of which 37,798 patients were recovered and discharged till now.
