Pregnant Woman Allegedly Shot Dead By Brother-in-law For Refusing Sexual Relation

Mumbai: A five-month pregnant woman was shot dead in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan on Sunday, allegedly by her brother-in-law, her family has claimed.

The loud sound of gunfire was heard all over the area around 9:40 am, but by the time a witness reached the crime scene, the miscreants had run away from the incident. The deceased was identified as Pallavi Chhabra, who was recently married to Anshul Chhabra in Ravidas Nagar in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan in May.

According to police, the incident was reported by family members at 11 am. The deceased’s father Hemraj Middha had earlier lodged his complaint in ward number 26 Anupgarh, but as it was a woman-oriented crime, it was later lodged at a nearby women’s police station.

As soon as the police got the information, they reached the spot and conducted a thorough inspection. Police said that before reaching the crime scene, the family members of the victim took her to the district hospital for post-mortem. Later, the police took the mother-in-law, the younger brother-in-law into custody, while the deceased’s husband was arrested two or three days ago in an unrelated incident.

According to the police report, the victim’s father stated that their mother-in-law was forcing her to have sexual relations with her brother-in-law. He further said that the harassment started shortly after the wedding when the in-laws accused her of her father-in-law’s death. They started raising dowry demands and physically tortured her, especially when she refused to have sex with his brother-in-law.

Despite her being five-months pregnant, she was beaten up daily.

According to the victim’s parents, she was killed by her in-laws and a neighbour. Last night, she reportedly told her parents that she was being held captive by her husband’s family. The next morning she was shot and killed.
