President Ram Nath Kovind Paved The Way For Formation Of 16th Lok Sabha, The New Government

Mumbai: President Ram Nath Kovind dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha with immediate effect on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet on Saturday.

After a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President dissolved the Lok Sabha on Friday, said in a release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“The President has accepted the advice of the Cabinet on 24.05.2019 and has signed an order dismissing the 16th Lok Sabha,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora met the President with two Election Commissioners – Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra and handed them a list of the winners of Lok Sabha elections.

Modi is expected to take oath as the new Prime Minister next week.

In the new Lok Sabha, 303 seats are BJP members. Add the number of its colleagues and the NDA has captured 353 out of 542 seats this time. Meanwhile, the UPA has 92 seats with only 52 seats.
