President Rule Revoked In Maharashtra

Mumbai:  The BJP-NCP government took charge in Maharashtra on Saturday after the President’s rule, imposed in the state a fortnight ago, was revoked at 5.47 am.

The gazette notification to this effect was issued by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla at 5.47 am.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 356 of the Constitution I, Ram Nath Kovind, President of India hereby revoke the proclamation issued by me under the said article on the 12th day of November, 2019, in relation to the state of Maharashtra with effect from the 23rd day of November, 2019,” President Ram Nath Kovind said in a gazette notification.

BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis and Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Ajit Pawar took oath as the chief minister and deputy chief minister of Maharashtra after the President’s rule was revoked. PTI

The Governor had then invited NCP, the third-largest party, to prove its ability to form the government failing which President’s Rule was imposed in the state.

The BJP won 105 seats in the 288-member assembly followed by Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54 and Congress 44.

President’s Rule was imposed in Maharashtra on November 12 after all the parties in the state failed to stake claim to form government in the state.

Reacting to the startling development, NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar on Saturday said Ajit Pawar’s decision to support the BJP to form government in Maharashtra is his personal decision and not of the party’s.
