Mumbai: Before traveling to Sri Lanka PM Narendra Modi offered prayers at the fames Lord Krishna Temple here in Kerala.

He also performed Thulabharam ritual for which the temple officials allegedly made arrangements for 100 kg lotus flowers.

Rituals are an important offering to Lord Krishna in which a person is weighed against an object such as flowers, cereals, fruits and similar articles and offered equal value or quantity in the form of charity.

Wearing Kerala’s traditional dhoti and white shawls, Modi was welcomed by the officials at the temple gate with a traditional full moon.

He was accompanied by Kerala Governor P Sathasivam, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan and Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran.

Security had been tightened in and around the temple since Friday in view of his visit.

Earlier, the Prime Minister arrived here at 9.50 am in a special naval helicopter from Kochi Naval Airport.

Modi is going to address a ‘convivial gathering’ – a party meeting organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kerala State Committee.

He arrived in Kochi on Friday late night and was greeted by Sathasivam, Muralitharan and Surendran at the Naval Airport.
