Priyanka Takes Back Her ‘UP CM Face’ Comment, Says ‘No Such Decision Taken’

Mumbai: A day after suggesting that she could be Congress’ CM candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday clarified her remarks saying that no such decision has been taken by Congress.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Priyanka said that she commented “in a slightly exaggerated manner” in response to repeated questions from the media on the issue. Also Read: Can You See Any Other Face?: Priyanka On Being Congress’ UP CM Candidate

“I am not saying that I am the (CM) face (of Congress in the Uttar Pradesh elections)…I said that (you can see my face everywhere) in irritation because you all were asking the same question again and again,” she said.

Priyanka further said that the party decides who will be the chief ministerial candidate and in some states no such decision is taken.

The Congress leader had given big hints on Friday that she could be the chief ministerial face of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

“Are you seeing any other face from the Congress? Then?” “Then you are the CM face for the Congress?” Priyanka Gandhi was asked. “Dikh toh raha hai na sab jaga mera chehra (My face can be seen everywhere),” she had said.

Uttar Pradesh will go for assembly polls in seven phases from February 10.
