Pune ATM Machine Catches Fire As Thieves Try To Cut It Open, ₹3.98 Lakh Burnt

Mumbai: According to police, ₹3.98 lakh cash was burnt during an attempt to steal money from an ATM in Pimpri Chinchwad on Sunday. Police added that the accused tried to cut open the ATM machine using a gas cutter.

According to the police, the thief entered the HDFC Bank ATM on Chikhali Road in Kudalwadi at around 3 am on Sunday. The accused sprayed black paint on the CCTV cameras and tried to cut the ATM machine with a gas cutter. But the ATM machine caught fire and the cash inside the ATM machine got burnt in the fire, the police said. Parts of the ATM machine, two CCTV cameras and some furniture were also damaged.

In this case, a person named Amol Shinde lodged an FIR at the Chikhali police station.

After getting information about the incident, the team of Pimpri Chinchwad Police reached the spot to investigate the matter. The police have registered a case against the unidentified person under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and several sections of the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act.

Officials said a probe has been launched to identify and arrest the accused.
