Punjab 1st State To Impose Full Curfew After People Violate Lockdown

Mumbai: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a full curfew in the state amidst the outbreak of COVID-19, making it the first state to do so.

Officials said the decision was taken because people were postponing the lockout in the state. Any person who needs to be exempted will be allowed specifically for the given duration and purpose.

An official spokesman said that after reviewing the situation with the Chief Secretary and the DGP, the CM has announced a full curfew without any relaxation.

Curfew was imposed as people were still coming out in large numbers. So the idea is to keep them inside, a senior official told PTI.

The spokesman said that the Deputy Commissioners have been asked to issue necessary orders. The spokesperson said that anyone seeking a relaxation of the sanctions would get it for a fixed period and purpose.
