Punjab CM Writes To PM Modi, Package Of Rs 1,000 Crore To deal With Floods

Mumbai: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has written a letter to PM Modi demanding a special package of Rs 1,000 crore to find out the damage caused by the floods.

The CM has also urged the PM to forgive the crop loans taken by the farmers in the affected villages during the current cropping season.

The report says that Punjab is experiencing the worst floods in 40 years. Torrential rains have flooded the Bhakra Dam in Himachal Pradesh. The water level exceeded the safe level.

The Bakra Beas Management Board has reportedly said that storing water at the lower level of the dam will help in avoiding a flood-like situation in several districts including Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Moa and Firozpur in Punjab.

Over 300 villages in Ropar, Jalandhar and Ferozepur districts of Punjab have been affected by the flow of Sutlej river. Crops spread over thousands of acres of land have been destroyed.
