Punjab: Food Safety Commissioner Directs To Destroy Stale And Putrefied Food material

Mumbai: Food shops especially sweet shops which were closed during the lockdown are being directed to destroy all the old/stale and putrefied food material, said a release by Info and Public relations department Punjab, on Wednesday.

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Mr. K S Pannu issued order Food Safety Officers in the state to conduct extensive raids to ensure that the instructions for destroying old food items are implemented in letter and spirit.

To make sure that stale food is properly disposed of, hundreds of food shops are being inspected on a daily basis. The food businesses have been asked by the Food and safety department to prepare themselves to adopt the new norm of social distancing, face masking, and handwashing while attending the customers for serving in premises as well as for home delivery.

Online training of food operators is also being conducted to make them aware of the food laws and practices not only for safe food preparation but also about safe food services. Pannu warned that any person found serving expired or substandard and unsafe food material shall be taken to task.

Currently, Punjab has 1914 COVID-19 cases, but as Lockdown is slowly getting relaxed the food shops are likely to be open.
