PV Sindhu Loses Semi To World No. 1 Tai Tzu-Ying, To Play For Bronze At Olympics Tomorrow

Mumbai: World champion PV Sindhu lost her women’s singles semi-final match to world number one Tai Tzu-Ying of Chinese Taipei at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.

Tzu-Ying defeated Sindhu 21-18, 21-12 in the semi-final. Sindhu will now play for the bronze on Sunday.

The Indian shuttler matched his opponent shot for shot, but it did not prove enough as Tzu-Ying won the first game 21-18.

Sindhu had to win the next game to stay alive in the semi-finals. Number two seed Tzu-Ying continued from where she left off in the first game and despite Sindhu throwing her best shot, it was not enough and the Indian shuttler lost the semi-final clash in straight games. The entire match lasted 40 minutes.

On Friday, Sindhu entered the women’s singles semi-finals by defeating the number four seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarterfinals. Sindhu defeated Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20. The quarterfinal match between Sindhu and Yamaguchi lasted for 56 minutes.
