Radha Krishna Mathur Takes Oath As First LG Of Union Territory Ladakh

Mumbai: After the abolition of the article 370 the Jammu and Kashmir were decided to split into two different union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The act reorganises the state into two union territories, namely the eponymous union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and that of Ladakh.

The act provides that the administration of the Jammu and Kashmir will be as per Article 239 of the Indian constitution. A bill for the act was introduced by the Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, in the Rajya Sabha, on 5 August 2019 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The bill was passed in Rajya Sabha the same day and was passed by the Lok Sabha on 6 August 2019. It received the President’s assent on 9 August 2019.

Today it will split into two territories According to this the Jammu and Kashmir will have the legislative Assembly on the lines of Puducherry and Delhi while Ladakh will sans one. Ladakh will Will handled by Lieutenant governor alone.

Today the Radha Krishnan Mathur took the oath of first Lieutenant Governor of the union territory of Ladakh.
Radha Krishna Mathur is a retired 1977 batch IAS officer of Tripura cadre who has been appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of the union territory of Ladakh. He retired as the Chief Information Commissioner of India in November 2018.

J&K High Court’s Chief Justice Gita Mittal will now fly to Srinagar to administer the oath to Girish Chandra Murmu as the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Justice Gita Mittal is an Indian Judge She is former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and Judge also.
Later in the day, Girish Chandra Murmu, a 1985-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre will take oath as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Home Minister Amit Shah are participating in the oath-taking ceremonies.

With the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, the number of states in India has come down to 28 and the number of Union Territories has gone up to nine. While Jammu and Kashmir will continue to have a legislature, like in Puducherry, Ladakh will be without one, like Chandigarh
