Railways To Run 2600 ‘Shramik Special’ Trains In Next 10 Days

Mumbai: Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said on Saturday while addressing a press conference that Railways will be running around 36 lakh migrants and will be ferrying 2600 ‘Shramik Special’ trains in next 10 days.

As in Lockdown 4.0 we are trying to bring back normalcy, Railways has decided to run 200 mail passenger trains from June 1st. Unreserved coaches and waiting list passengers will not be allowed in these trains. Only symptom patients with mandatory Face covers will be allowed to board the trains, said VK Yadav.

“If we get any requirement from any state govt authority, we are also prepared to run trains within the state,” said Yadav.

Briefing on PPE kits produced in Railway workshop, Yadav said that railways had produced over 1.2 Lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)  and 1.4 Liters Sanitizer.

Railways had converted 5000 coaches into COVID ccenterstres, with 80,000 beds. As some of these were not being used, 50% of the coaches are used for Shramik Special trains, said VK Yadav.

Till the date nearly 35 Lakh migrant workers in 2600 Shramik Special trains returned to the native states. 80% of the trains were for UP and Bihar.
