Raj Thackeray Unveils New Saffron MNS Flag, Son Amit Joins Party

Thackeray’s son Amit was also introduced as a leader of the party at the conclave

Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray unveiled the party’s new saffron-coloured flag and his son Amit was formally inducted into the party, although his exact role was not announced.

The new MNS flag carries the rajmudra seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, below which the party’s name is displayed, it is perceived as an outpouring of MNS towards the Hindutva ideology.

Inaugurating the conclave, Raj Thackeray paid tribute to his mentor and Shiv Sena chief late Bal Thackeray as it is his birth anniversary. The first time MNS put a picture of Veer Savarkar on the stage is another sign of the party’s Hindutva transformation as Savarkar is considered a Hindutva thinker.

Thackeray’s son Amit was also introduced as a leader of the party at the conclave.

“This is my first address on a public forum in the last 14 years of the party and my 27 years (age) … I am truly overwhelmed. It would not have been possible without the guidance and encouragement of Raj-Saheb.” Thackeray, ”said Amit Thackeray.

After losing in successive elections, Raj Thackeray is now trying to strengthen his party. The MNS has only one MLA in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and alone corporator in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

There was also speculation of an alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the MNS after Thackeray’s meeting with former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier this month, although the BJP leader said there was no scope for a tie-up.
