Ram Vilas Paswan Passes Away: I Lost A Friend And Valued Colleague Says, PM Narendra Modi

Mumbai: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) founder Ram Vilas Paswan died on Thursday after an illness.

He was 74. MP Chirag Paswan expressed condolences to his father.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Ram Vilas Paswan tweeted saying, “I am saddened beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will perhaps never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague, and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity.”

“Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji rose in politics through hard work and determination. As a young leader, he resisted tyranny and the assault on our democracy during the Emergency. He was an outstanding Parliamentarian and Minister, making lasting contributions in several policy areas,” he said in another tweet.

Ram Vilas Paswan was the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the Narendra Modi government. He was also a minister in the previous NDA government.

He had heart surgery in a hospital in Delhi.

Paswan was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1977 from Hajipur in Bihar on a Janata Party ticket.
