Ramdas Athawale Writes To Amit Shah, Demands President’s Rule In Maharashtra

Mumbai: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has demanded the President’s rule in Maharashtra in view of the letter dropped by former Maharashtra Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the head of the Republican Party of India demanded President’s rule in Maharashtra.

Ramdas Athawale also tweeted, “The people of Maharashtra have lost faith in the state government on the issue of law and order. Therefore, the Republican Party’s demand letter to dismiss the state government and impose presidential rule in Maharashtra has been sent to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office today.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik said that Param Bir Singh’s letter raises questions that were ‘written after the transfer’.

He said, “There will be an inquiry (against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh). The resignation has been asked on basis of the letter, no question it’ll happen. Party will take a call only after the probe,” he said.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh made allegations of corruption against Deshmukh. In a letter to CM Thackeray, Singh alleged that Deshmukh was running an extortion racket had asked Mumbai Police officials to “collect” Rs 100 crore per month, over half of it from the 1,750-odd restaurants, bars and hotels in the megapolis.

Singh was transferred by the Maharashtra government over the probe in the alleged killing of Mansukh Hiran, the businessman owner of the SUV that was found parked outside Antilia last month. Police had recovered nearly 2.5 kg of gelatin from the vehicle. Later, links had emerged between Sachin Waze, the suspended Mumbai Police officer and Hiran and the NIA even made a breakthrough in the case over the weekend.
