Gujarat: A shocking incident of sexual assault has come to light from Shihor town in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district, in which a man allegedly raped his 19-year-old unmarried daughter several times in the last year.
The alleged crime came to light on Wednesday when an unmarried girl gave birth to a child in a government hospital.
According to the Ahmedabad, Mirror police said that the 19-year-old girl’s health deteriorated on Wednesday, after which she was taken to the government hospital in Shihor, where she gave birth to a baby boy, which everyone was stunned to see. On being asked about the father of the newborn, the girl burst into tears and narrated her ordeal. She said that in the past year, her father – a daily wage labourer – raped her several times in her mother’s absence or while she was sleeping. As a result of the sexual assault, she became pregnant.
After this, the police was informed and the accused was taken into custody. The teenage survivor and her newborn child were referred to a medical facility in Bhavnagar. Police believe the victim’s mother was oblivious to her plight.
“The investigations in the case are likely to be handed over to the women’s wing of Bhavnagar police, sources said. The accused man has two sons and two daughters. Two sons and one daughter are married and live separately. The man lived with his wife and their youngest daughter in a slum in Shihor town,” a report published by Ahmedabad Mirror stated.
