Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat Says, India Is A Hindu Nation

Mumbai: In a controversial statement, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said that India is a Hindu nation.

Bhagwat said during a book launch event in New Delhi, “We can change everything. All ideologies can be changed, but the only thing that cannot change is the Hindu nation across India.”

The RSS supremo also took the name of Lord Hanuman, Shivaji and RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in one breath.

However, he also spoke of dissatisfaction within the RSS on some issues. Bhagwat said, “We can be madhabhed, not stubborn,” after Bhagwat started the new book ‘The RSS: Roadmap for 21st Century’ by senior RSS leader and ABVP chief Sunil Ambedkar.

The event saw participation from Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, Social Justice Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, among others.

Bhagwat appealed to convert India into a “Hindu nation” a few years ago, stating that Hinduism relied on the principle of “unity in diversity”.

Speaking in Madhya Pradesh, Bhagwat cited Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s book Swadeshi Samaj to emphasize the issue of Hindu Rashtra.
