Red Alert Issued By IMD As Cyclone Vayu Reaches Gujarat Coastal Parts

Mumbai: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a widespread rainfall with heavy storms in some parts of Saurashtra and Kutch region on 13 June.

“Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Vayu over East-central Arabian Sea moved further northwards in last 6 hours and lay centered at 0230 hrs of 12 June over East-central Arabian Sea, about 450 km west-northwest of Goa, 290 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 380 km nearly south of Veraval (Gujarat),” said IMD through a statement.

According to the IMD, the position of the sea in the East-Central Arabian Sea is likely to be very high on 11th. The sea conditions are expected to be very high in the north-east on the 13th of June, 2019, on the Arabian Sea and on the Gujarat coast and in the east-east and adjoining northeast.

In a statement, IMD stated that damage can be expected in the coastal areas and suggested to take action in Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagarh, Diu, Gir Somnath, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts of Gujarat.

It has also directed to take actions on road and tail traffic. Meantime, it has also suspended fishing operations.

The IMD has asked the coastal hut residents to take the safest place in the house and keep people in the affected areas.
