Mumbai: Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami was detained by the Mumbai Police on Wednesday and alleged that he along with his mother-in-law, father-in-law, son and wife have been physically assaulted.
Mumbai police today entered Goswami’s residence and physically assaulted his family members and him.
Republic TV channel aired scenes of Mumbai Police entering the residence of Goswami and everything that happened seems to be a bluff.
Republic TV has alleged that Arnab was attacked by policemen and then forcibly taken to Raigad in Maharashtra. While it is unclear in which case he has been arrested, Republic TV reported that Arnab has been detained in connection with the 2018 suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik, who allegedly designed the Republic Studio. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against Arnab in Raigad as the family alleged that the suicide occurred on non-payment of bills. Arnab was first placed in a car and then pushed into a van, according to scenes on the channel. As he was being taken into the van, Arnab told the cameras that he and his family were beaten up inside the house.
Recalling what happened, Arnab’s wife Samyabrata Ray alleged, “At 7:55 am policemen barged in, we were sleeping. They banged the door. We asked them for some time to get ready. 20 mins was too much of a time for the encounter cops. The police were carrying cameras. They thrashed Arnab and held him by his hair. Arnab said he wants his lawyer to come. They said that Arnab is being taken to the Raigad police station. Arnab requested for water, he wasn’t keeping well.”
