Restrictions To Be Lifted From Monday In Jammu Kashmir, Telephone Lines To Restore By Friday Night: J&K Chief Sect Announces Relaxations

Mumbai: Addressing the media on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam said that phone lines and other communication restrictions in the Kashmir Valley would be relaxed in phases, starting on Friday night itself.

A cry and cry amid an unprecedented lockout in the state, Subrahmanyam said that restrictions in the Valley will be removed in phases keeping in view the terror threats from banned organisations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The telephone line will be opened by today mid-night itself, BSNL lines take time to restore completely. Whereas schools will reopen from Monday area-wise. Government offices have already been made fully functional from Friday.

He also said that Political detention of such as former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti will be lifted. However, these are subject to review on a daily basis. According to the provisions of the law, some preventive persons were also detained to maintain law and order.

He further said, Unlike previous restrictions, there has been no casualty during these restrictions. Despite all efforts by terrorist organizations Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar, there has been no loss of life or property. During the restrictions, essential facilities like medical, food are being adequately supplied, satellite television, newspapers are being published and medical facilities are available.

More than 40,000 additional troops were taken to Jammu and Kashmir before the August 5 announcement to repeal Article 370 to snatch its special state status.

The restrictions were eased for a few hours on Eid morning in the Valley and were put back immediately after the prayers were over.
