Rishabh Pant Will Start Against England Tomorrow, Confirms Virat Kohli

Mumbai: India captain Virat Kohli confirmed that Rishabh Pant will start the first Test match against England which will start as front-line wicketkeeper on Friday. India and England are set to play horns in four Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.

The first two matches of the Test series will be played in Chennai before the cricketers travel to Ahmedabad for the third and fourth Test. Both Pant and Wriddhiman Saha have been included in India’s squad for the first two Tests against England.

Kohli said during the virtual press conference on Thursday that, “Yes, Rishabh (Pant) will start tomorrow. He had a lot of influence in Australia and he is in a good top position and we want him to build on it with all aspects of his game.”

“He came on very well after the IPL and then in Australia. He was not a part of the white-ball format, but he continued his fitness and hard work in his game,” he said.

“We were all very happy to see him because he is someone we have supported quite a lot for good reasons and because what we have seen in Australia and that shows that he brings a lot of value he can definitely be a consistent match-winner for India,” Kohli added.

The first Test will be played from Friday, while the second is slated to begin on February 13.
