Rishi Kumar Shukla Takes Charge As New Director of Central Bureau of Investigation

Mumbai: In a recent development, Senior officer Rishi Kumar Shukla has been appointed as a new director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Shukla is a 1983 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. After his training tenure at the National Police Academy, he was posted in Shivpuri, Damoh, Raipur and Madhya Pradesh and Mandsaur districts and Chhattisgarh. He has trained in crisis management and negotiations from the United States, and was briefly associated with the Intelligence Bureau who handles sensitive matters.

Prior to being appointed as the director of the CBI, he was appointed the director general of Madhya Pradesh Police in 2016 and the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation in Bhopal.

As per reports, earlier congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge who is a part of selection committee led by PM Narendra Modi, had opposed Kumar’s appointment stating that officer has no experience of anti-corruption investigation.

The selection of Rishi Kumar comes after former CBI director Alok Verma resigned from his position.
