Mumbai: India captain Rohit Sharma started his Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on a high note, delivering a scintillating performance against Bangladesh in a Group A match at the Dubai International Stadium. In the process, Rohit achieved a major milestone by surpassing 11,000 ODI runs, joining an elite club of cricketing legends.

Rohit Sharma Joins the 11,000-Run Club
Rohit became only the fourth Indian to reach 11,000 ODI runs, following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli. Beyond these Indian greats, only six other players worldwide have achieved this feat: Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Mahela Jayawardene.
Second Fastest to the Landmark
Rohit Sharma set another record by becoming the second fastest player in the world to reach 11,000 ODI runs, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar. Rohit accomplished the milestone in just 261 innings, compared to Tendulkar’s 276. The only player ahead of him remains Virat Kohli, who took just 222 innings to reach the milestone.

Climbing the All-Time Run Scorers List
With this latest achievement, Rohit now trails Sourav Ganguly (11,363 runs) among India’s highest run scorers in ODI cricket. Sachin Tendulkar remains at the pinnacle with 18,246 runs in 463 matches.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is on the verge of another historic achievement, needing just 37 more runs to become the third player in history to score 14,000 ODI runs. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara currently sits second on the all-time ODI run-scoring list with 14,234 runs in 404 matches.
