Rohit Sharma Breaks Into Top Three in Latest ICC ODI Rankings, Kohli Slips to Fifth

Mumbai: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has climbed back into the top three in the latest ICC men’s ODI rankings following the 2025 Champions Trophy. Rohit now holds 756 rating points, trailing only Pakistan’s Babar Azam and his Indian opening partner, Shubman Gill. The margin between Rohit and Babar is just 14 rating points, the same as the gap between the top two positions.
Meanwhile, senior batter Virat Kohli has slipped one place down to number five with 736 points. Despite his slight drop, Kohli played a crucial role in India’s title-winning campaign in the UAE.
Key Contributions from Indian Batters
All three top-ranked Indian batters—Rohit, Kohli, and Gill—made significant contributions to India’s victorious Champions Trophy run:
- Virat Kohli – India’s second-highest run-scorer with 218 runs in five matches at an average of 54.50.
- Shubman Gill – Scored a match-winning 101* in India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh.
- Rohit Sharma – Top-scored in the final against New Zealand with a crucial 76-run knock, earning the Player of the Match award.
India’s most consistent performer, Shreyas Iyer, who was their highest run-scorer in the tournament, retained his position at number eight. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen gained one spot each, ranking sixth and 13th, respectively. The biggest rise in the rankings came from Rachin Ravindra, whose 263 runs in four matches saw him jump 14 places to number 14.
Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja Make Big Strides in Bowling Rankings
India’s success in the bowling department was reflected in the latest rankings as well. Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav climbed three spots to secure third place, following his impactful performances, including dismissing Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson in the final. Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner, New Zealand’s top bowler in the tournament, surged six places to claim the second spot. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana continues to hold the top position in the ODI bowling rankings.
With India’s commanding performances in the Champions Trophy, their players have significantly strengthened their positions in the ICC ODI rankings, setting the stage for the upcoming international fixtures.
