Rohit Should Play Next Game, Hardik Had Niggle, Nothing Serious: Jayawardena

Mumbai: MI head coach Mahela Jayawardena has said that captain Rohit Sharma should be fine to play their next game against KKR on Thursday. Rohit had missed out on the match against Chennai Super Kings which was played in Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

The duo All-rounder Kieron Pollard led the team in Rohit absence but MI lost the game by 20 runs.

Addressing a virtual press conference after the match, MI head coach Jayawardene said that Rohit was given a few ‘extra days’ to get back in action and that he is ready for his next face-off against Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Rohit was batting and running, after coming back from the UK, we probably thought he needs a few more days, so he should be fine to play the next game. Hardik was training, was a swallow, so the precaution and giving him an extra day, nothing serious,” Jayawardene said during a virtual post-match presser.

Talking about Mumbai Indians’ batting, Jayawardene said: “Not really, I mean we struggled in Chennai in the first half as we did not get used to the conditions. Here also, you know, it was not the easiest wicket, but probably needed some application. I put it down to game awareness and taking responsibility. The application out there is something we need to work on.”

For CSK, all-rounder Dwayne Bravo took three and Deepak Chahar took two wickets. The highest run-scorer for Mumbai, Saurabh Tiwary was playing an innings of 50 runs. With this win, Chennai Super Kings have moved up to the top of the IPL table, while Mumbai are now in danger of falling out of the top 4 if they end up on a losing streak.

Gaikwad played an unbeaten knock of 88 runs as the MS Dhoni-led side posted a score of 156/6 in the allotted twenty overs after 24/4 inside the powerplay.

Mumbai Indians will next lock horns against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday.
