Rohit’s Strength Is To Take The Game Forward Like Viru Paji Used To Do: Virat Kohli

Mumbai: Team India is all set to take on South Arica in its first test on 2nd October. Test team squad has been announced earlier in the day, where after a lot of controversy over Number 4 batsman, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the team well Wriddhiman Saha will make he come back to the side.

On the other side, all eyes will be on inform short format batsman Rohit Sharma who also make his come back in the Red Ball side.

Meanwhile, skipper Virat Kohli doesn’t expect Rohit Sharma to follow a certain style and wants the seasoned campaigner to use his natural instincts much like Virender Sehwag in his new role as a Test opener.

Virat Kohli said that Rohit Sharma is understood what he needs to do and said that the change from the middle order to opening spot is more of a mental adjustment than anything.

In the first Test between India and South Africa starting on 1 October, Virat Kohli confirmed that Rohit Sharma will open with Mayank Agarwal.

In fact, after captain Kohli addressed the press conference in Visakhapatnam, India named the playing XI for the 1st Test on its eve.

Virat Kohli said, “In Test cricket, I started with (number) six. It came down to four. It was a mental thing. If you can explain yourself, you can do it. Test cricket is about finding your game in different conditions.”

He said, “We are not seeing a particular kind of performance of Rohit’s batting. It is about taking his game to the top. Yes, his strength is to take the game forward. Like what Viru Bhai used to do for the team for a long period.”

Rohit Sharma played in the middle-order for 81 ODIs under former captain MS Dhoni, he got the idea to be promoted to the slot of the opener. Rohit got instant success and his career went well after promotion.

Rohit has scored 25 hundred, including 3 double hundreds, ever since his promotion to the opener’s slot in 2013.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli hopes that Rohit Sharma will follow his ODI route to success in the Test.

Virat Kohli said, “For Rohit too, the clarity of the role that you have to play in a certain way is very important for a player and communication is very important for us.”

“But we could not see a situation but now there is a situation and an ideal time to move forward with it as we talked about it. One day the same was with him.”

He said, “He was batting in the middle order and then suddenly there was an initial conversation and within 6-8 months he was opening and we all know what happened after that. If he can do what he did in ODIs, it will be great for Indian cricket.”
