Mumbai: Rahul Gandhi has pleaded not guilty before a Mumbai court on Thursday which is hearing a defamation case by an RSS worker over the Congress leader’s alleged comments linking Gauri Lankesh’s killing with the “BJP-RSS ideology”.
Mumbai court released the leader on a surety of Rs 15,000. Former MP Eknath Gaikwad gave the surety for Rahul.
The leader had argued not to be guilty. Rahul decided to appear before the court just one day after resigning as Congress President.

Notably, his followers have lined up on either side of the road leading up to the court. Rahul was accompanied by Mallikarjun Kharge and Milind Deora.
Apart from CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, a Congress Magistrate was called by a Metropolitan Magistrate Court in February on a complaint filed by Dhrutiman Joshi, a lawyer and worker of the RSS or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP.

Meanwhile, supervisors are linking Rahul’s decision to the court, which he had told in his open letter a day earlier. He wrote, “I have fought personally with the Prime Minister, the RSS and those institutions which they have occupied. I fought because I love India … many times, I was completely alone and I am very proud of it. ”

It was also alleged in the complaint that Yechury said that it was RSS ideology and RSS people who killed the journalist who was known for criticizing right-wing politics.

The court had issued summons against Rahul Gandhi and Yechury, but rejecting the complaint against Sonia Gandhi and CPM said that the party can not be held liable for comment made by any person.
Rahul Gandhi is facing another defamation suit in the neighbouring Thane district of Bhiwandi for allegations of blaming the RSS for killing a Mahatma Gandhi by a local RSS worker.
