Safety, Well-Being Of Fans, Athletes Is Our Priority: BCCI

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reiterated during the IPL Governing Council (GC) meeting here to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of fans, athletes and staff.

“All IPL franchises, as well as BCCI, have reiterated stance for the safety and welfare of fans, athletes and employees,” the BCCI said in a statement.

“The board will continue to monitor and work closely with the Government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies to make decisions about future action in the best interest of public health,” the statement said.

In addition, sources in the BCCI told ANI that the Governing Council also discussed the possibilities of conducting the entire 60 matches of the tournament in group stages such as the ICC competition.

The meeting also discussed a growing doubleheader to curb the IPL. Sources also said that the option of holding matches in two or three centres to restrict travel.

Playing the tournament behind close doors without spectators to avoid large gatherings was also in discussion at the meeting. On 13 March, BCCI postponed the IPL to 15 April 2020 as a precaution against the current COVID-19 status.
