Samajwadi Party Will Campaign For Mamata Banerjee: Akhilesh Yadav

Mumbai: Former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav announced Samajwadi Party’s support for Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Yadav said in Jhansi that SP Vice-President Kironmoy Nanda and other party leaders will campaign for TMC candidates.

Announcing unconditional support to Mamata Banerjee, Yadav said in SP that SP Vice President Kironmoy Nanda and other senior leaders of the party would campaign against the BJP for TMC candidates in West Bengal.

However, the SP chief did not say that he would campaign and rally against the BJP to support Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. Yadav claimed that he was in touch with the TMC president and other senior TMC leaders to come up with a joint strategy to take on the BJP.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had a coup against her own father Mulayam Singh Yadav on January 2, 2017, when she took the affairs of the party into her own hands.

Since then the two leaders met for some time and remained on the same page on national issues. A staunch leader criticized the BJP and its policies, Akhilesh Yadav had earlier said that the BJP was trying to polarize West Bengal elections on communal grounds by doing politics of hate.

“All like-minded parties should come together to ensure that the BJP is thrown out of West Bengal. We have decided to back TMC,” he stated.
