Sanjay Raut Will Never Do Any Corruption, BJP Is Scared Of Him: Sunil Raut

Mumbai: After a Mumbai court extended ED custody of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut till August 8, his brother Sunil Raut said the BJP is scared of Sanjay.

The Rajya Sabha MP was arrested late Sunday night in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra ‘chawls’ (old row houses) in suburban Goregaon and financial asset transactions involving his wife and alleged associates. Also Read: ED Summons Sanjay Raut’s Wife Varsha Raut In Patra Chawl Money Laundering Case

Soon after the court order to pursue the MP’s order comes, his MLA brother Sunil Raut fears Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sanjay Raut, who is a true Shiv Sainik will never indulge in corruption.

“We have faith in the judiciary. Today, the court has ordered to send him (Sanjay Raut) to ED custody till August 8. Sanjay Raut is a true Shiv Sainik of Balasaheb Thackeray. He will never do any corruption. The BJP is scared of him,” Sunil Raut was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The ED has sought Raut’s custody till August 10, saying it has come to know of cash transactions of Rs 1.17 crore in relation to the Alibaug property. The ED told the court that this is in addition to what was found and stated earlier during the last hearing.

According to the agency, an amount of ₹1.08 crore was received from unrelated persons in the account of Sanjay Raut’s wife.

The agency’s moves came days after the Uddhav Thackeray-led coalition government collapsed due to the rebellion of Eknath Shinde, who then took over as Maharashtra chief minister along with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis.

The BJP and Shiv Sena broke decades-old ties after the last assembly election over power-sharing issues, after which the latter joined hands with the NCP and Congress to form the MVA government in the western state.
