Satyapal Malik Predicts End of BJP Rule at Centre, Calls Maharashtra the ‘Last Nail In The Coffin
Mumbai: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik predicted that Maharashtra will be the decisive factor in ending the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rule at the Centre. Speaking at the ‘Save Democracy, Save Constitution’ event in Mumbai on Saturday, Malik, who was the chief guest, expressed his belief that the BJP is delaying the state assembly elections out of fear of losing.
“Maharashtra was supposed to go for polls along with Haryana, but they are afraid they will lose,” Malik said. He also pointed to the postponement of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections as further evidence of the BJP’s apprehension. “Only because of the fear of losing another state, the Vidhan Sabha elections have been delayed.”
The event, organized by Nirdhar Maharashtracha, a collective of civil society groups, provided a platform for Malik to voice strong criticism of the current government’s handling of key national issues. He accused the central leadership of undermining agriculture and employment in the country, but remained optimistic that the people, led by Maharashtra, would bring an end to the BJP’s rule. “Maharashtra will be the last nail in their coffin,” Malik asserted, adding that the state would lead the way for the rest of India.
A vocal critic of the government, Malik revisited his controversial stance on the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 security personnel. He called for a full investigation into the incident, accusing the central government of turning the tragedy into a political issue. “I publicly accepted that it happened due to our intelligence errors, but the PM and NSA asked me to stay silent,” Malik revealed, lamenting that the government failed to probe the incident and instead used it for electoral gains.
Malik further claimed that after his statements on Pulwama, he faced targeted actions by the government. He has since been relocated to a small one-room residence in Delhi, while his ancestral home was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He also alleged that his security was withdrawn and that his associates in Jammu were harassed, with their phones being seized.
The event was also addressed by Tushar Gandhi of Hum Bharat Ke Log, Dr. Sunilam of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, Shyam Dada Gaikwad of the Progressive Republican Party, Ulka Mahajan of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, and Firoze Mithiborewala of the Pulwama Truth Movement, each voicing concerns over the current political and social climate in India.
