Mumbai: Saurav Ghosal on Wednesday created history by becoming the first-ever Indian to win a singles medal in squash in the history of CWG.
The 35-year-old defeated England’s James Willstrop to finish third in the men’s singles event at CWG 2022.
Ghosal played a commanding game against his English rival for the bronze medal and won the match 3-0 in a one-sided clash with scores of 11-6, 11-1, 11-4.
Indian got off to a good start. He displayed some great strokeplay during the first game and took it 11 – 6. The second game started on an exciting note as Ghosal had the upper hand. He dominated his English opponent 11-1 in the second game in a one-sided encounter.
It was a one-sided affair and Ghosal looked like a man on a mission who wanted to win a bronze medal at any cost. In the next game, Ghosal got off to a good start, though Willstrop caught hold of his opponent. The Indian maintained his form and pace to win the game 11-4.
