SC Directs Uttar Pradesh Goverment To Release Prashant Kanojia Immediately

Mumbai: Recently, Uttar Pradesh government was questioned by Supreme Court over journalist Prashant Kanojia arrest for ‘defamatory post’ on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The apex court has asked the UP government to release the journalist on an immediate basis.

During the hearing on the petition of Kanojia’s wife Jagdish Arora, SC asked, “Opinion may be different, he (Prashant) probably did not want to publish or write that tweet, but on what basis he was arrested.”

The court said, “The freedom of the citizens is sacred and non-negotiable. It is guaranteed by the Constitution and it can not be violated. ”

Reacting on this Congress President Rahul Gandhi was lambasted on CM Yogi saying the latter is’ ‘behaving foolishly’.

“If every journalist who files a false report or peddles fake, vicious RSS/BJP sponsored propaganda about me is put in jail, most newspapers/ news channels would face a severe staff shortage. The UP CM is behaving foolishly & needs to release the arrested journalists,” Gandhi had tweeted earlier in the day.

Kanojia was arrested on Sunday for allegedly uploading a video on Twitter in Hazratganj police station where a woman was claiming the proposal of marriage to Uttar Pradesh CM.
