Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said that sedition law will be invoked against those celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup match held in Dubai on Sunday.

The Uttar Pradesh Police had registered a case against seven people in a total of five districts and detained four for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans or celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in a T20 Cricket World Cup match on October 24.

After the victory of Pakistan, news of celebration came from some states of India.

A scuffle broke out between some Kashmiri students and students from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar after a T20 match at a private engineering college in Punjab on Sunday.

Kashmiri students were thrashed and their hostel rooms were ransacked as they were allegedly cheering for Pakistan.

In Agra, three students from Jammu and Kashmir were suspended for posting WhatsApp statuses praising Pakistani players.

Similarly, a private school teacher in Rajasthan’s Udaipur was arrested on Wednesday for posting a WhatsApp status celebrating Pakistan’s victory.

She was also sacked by the school management.

Nafisa Attari, a teacher at Neerja Modi School Udaipur, posted a picture of Pakistani players after India’s loss to Pakistan, writing, “Jeet gayi, we won.”

Her WhatsApp status went viral on social media following which the school management sacked him on Tuesday.

Attari was arrested under IPC Section 153 (B) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and was later released on bail.
